Visa

The vast majority of foreign nationals visiting Russia need to apply for a visa to Russian embassies/consulates. You may apply either for a tourist or for a business visa.

To obtain a business visa you should submit an official invitation issued by the Moscow State University and approved by Russian Ministry of the Interior. Please note that your passport must be valid for more than 6 months beyond the dates of the expected trip; you must have two empty visa pages in your passport.

If you need an official invitation, please do the following.

  • Fill in the registration form on the WAFL3 website. Make sure that information in p.p. 1–2 and 9–23 is complete and accurate.
  • Send the photo and detail page(s) of your passport to . For this you will need to scan the relevant pages, save them as a file in any of the common graphic formats (.jpg, .tif, .bmp, .pdf etc.), and send as an attachment.
If you find scanning inconvenient, you may fax a copy of the page(s) to +7 495 9395596. Please attach a cover sheet to your fax indicating that it is addressed to the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, WAFL3 Organizing Committee.

Since the invitation procedure on the Russian side may take up to 1.5 months, we strongly encourage all the participants to send us all the necessary information before March 15, 2006.

Alternatively, you may apply for a tourist visa. In this case, you need to have a tourist confirmation from an authorized Russian travel agency. Normally, you can find a list of authorized agencies at a Russian embassy in your country. Getting tourist visas takes less time, but is more expensive.

Rules and regulations at Russian embassies may vary. Please visit a website of a Russian Embassy in your country for more detailed information. Here are a few relevant links:
